Thanks so much for sharing your life with us. The

cover, the quotes at the beginning of each chapter,

mention of those we knew in Ottawa all tie in to make it

truly an inspiring book. It is bringing out so many

different emotions.

In crisp and honest terms, Sel Erder Yackley portrays

bipolar disorder and suicide as a family problem in

Never Regret the Pain: Loving and Losing a Bipolar

Spouse. In her well-written memoir, both the

physiological and human aspects of this serious mental

health condition are explored in personable and

relatable terms. The reader is allowed intimate glimpses

in to the family?s struggle to understand, cope with,

and ultimately grieve the tragic effects of an untreated

affective disorder. We are given special access to the

thoughts and emotions, not only of the person suffering

from the problem, but also the spouse, children,

extended family and community. With the author as a

keen observing guide, the reader bears witness to the

faint and ongoing repercussion of living with a person

with bipolar disorder and his death by suicide
